Coping with loss is never easy

We all experience loss

Recently, my best friend experienced the heartache of losing his father. An unimaginable loss for him and his family. His dad was not only a parent but also his best friend, hero and confidant.

Whenever he needed advice or guidance, a quick call to his dad would provide the answers. Now, that comforting presence is gone.

As time progresses, we all have to face the loss of someone dear to us and there is no way to prepare for the profound impact it leaves on our lives.

We all have unique memories of those passed

The funeral was a beautiful tribute to Dicky, an exceptional husband, father, son, brother and friend. Like most funerals, we then gathered at the wake to console one another, sharing food, drinks and support for the grieving family.

As the crowd thinned, the closest family members gathered around a table, and I felt honoured to be included as they began sharing their most treasured memories of their beloved Dicky.

We laughed and shed tears of joy as we celebrated the incredible life he led and the adventures he had. Surprised exclamations of, "I didn't know that!" and, "You're joking!?" filled the air as stories unfolded. 

Nobody had been present for every moment of Dicky's life, not even his wife and children.
